1. Installation & Setup

Prerequisites

Before installing Testimonials Manager Pro, you need:

  • ✅ WordPress 5.8 or higher
  • ✅ PHP 7.4 or higher
  • ✅ The free version of Testimonials Manager installed from WordPress.org

Installation Steps

Step 1: Install the Free Version

  1. In your WordPress admin, go to Plugins → Add New
  2. Search for “Testimonials Manager”
  3. Click Install Now → Activate

Step 2: Install the Pro Version

  1. Download the Pro plugin ZIP from your Purchase History page
  2. Go to Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin
  3. Choose the testimonials-manager-pro.zip file
  4. Click Install Now → Activate

Step 3: Activate Your License

See License Activation below.

2. License Activation

Activating your license enables automatic updates and Pro features.

How to Activate

  1. Go to Testimonials → Settings → License in your WordPress admin
  2. Enter your license key (from your purchase email)
  3. Click Activate License
  4. You’ll see a green “Active” status when successful

License Key Location

Your license key was sent to your email after purchase. You can also find it in your Purchase History page.

Troubleshooting Activation

Error: “Invalid license key”

  • Make sure you copied the entire key (no extra spaces)
  • Verify you’re using the correct key for this domain

Error: “License limit reached”

  • You’ve activated on the maximum number of sites
  • Deactivate from an unused site first (see Managing Your License)

3. Google Reviews Import

Import and sync your Google Business reviews automatically.

Setup Google API Key

Step 1: Get Your API Key

  1. Go to Google Cloud Console
  2. Create a new project (or select existing)
  3. Enable Places API (New)
  4. Create credentials → API Key
  5. Restrict the key to “Places API”

Step 2: Add API Key to Plugin

  1. Go to Testimonials → Settings → Google
  2. Paste your API key
  3. Click Save Changes
  4. Click Test API Key to verify it works

Import Reviews

  1. Go to Testimonials → Import from Google
  2. Search for your business name
  3. Select your business from results
  4. Choose a category (optional)
  5. Click Import Reviews

Automatic Sync

  1. Go to Testimonials → Settings → Google
  2. Enable Automatic Sync
  3. Choose frequency: Daily, Weekly, or Monthly
  4. New reviews will import automatically

Important Notes

  • Google’s API returns the 5 most recent reviews only
  • Duplicate reviews are automatically skipped
  • For historical reviews, use CSV import instead

4. Pro Shortcodes

Slider/Carousel Layout

Display reviews in a rotating carousel:

No reviews found.

Attributes:

  • autoplay="true" – Auto-rotate slides
  • speed="3000" – Rotation speed in milliseconds
  • arrows="true" – Show navigation arrows
  • dots="true" – Show pagination dots

Featured Review Callout

Display a single review in a prominent callout box:

Auto-select highest rated:

Attributes:

  • id – Specific testimonial ID
  • category – Auto-select from category
  • random="true" – Pick random from category
  • style="boxed" – Display style (boxed, minimal, card)

Review Stats Badge

Display aggregate rating statistics:

With category filter:

Formats:

  • full – Complete stats with text
  • short – Compact version
  • number – Just the rating number

Example:

5. Auto-Insert Configuration

Automatically display testimonials on specific pages without shortcodes.

Setup Auto-Insert Rules

  1. Go to Testimonials → Settings → Display
  2. Enable Auto-Insert Reviews
  3. Configure rules:

By Category:

  • Assign testimonials to categories (e.g., “Web Design”)
  • Set rule: Show “Web Design” testimonials on pages with “web-design” category

By Post Type:

  • Show testimonials on all posts
  • Show testimonials on all pages
  • Show testimonials on custom post types

By Location:

  • Before content
  • After content
  • Both

Example Configuration

Goal: Show relevant testimonials on service pages

  1. Create category: “SEO Services”
  2. Assign testimonials to this category
  3. Create auto-insert rule:
    • Category: SEO Services
    • Display on: Pages with “seo” in slug
    • Position: After content
    • Layout: Grid

The slider layout displays reviews in a rotating carousel.

Styling

The slider inherits your theme’s styles. To customize:

  1. Go to Testimonials → Settings → Styling
  2. Adjust colors, fonts, and spacing
  3. Or add custom CSS:

Highlight your best reviews with the featured callout shortcode.

Display Specific Review

Pro Feature: The featured review shortcode requires Testimonials Manager Pro.

Find the ID:

  1. Go to Testimonials → All Testimonials
  2. Hover over a testimonial
  3. The ID appears in the URL: post=123

Auto-Select Best Review

Pro Feature: The featured review shortcode requires Testimonials Manager Pro.

This automatically selects the highest-rated review from that category.

Random Selection

Pro Feature: The featured review shortcode requires Testimonials Manager Pro.

Shows a random review from the category (refreshes on page load).

Styling Options

Pro Feature: The featured review shortcode requires Testimonials Manager Pro.

Styles:

  • boxed – Card with border
  • minimal – Clean, borderless
  • card – Elevated card with shadow

8. Review Stats Badge

Display aggregate rating statistics.

Basic Usage

Shows stats only for testimonials in that category.

Filter by Minimum Rating

Only includes 4 and 5-star reviews in the calculation.

9. Managing Your License

View License Status

  1. Go to Testimonials → Settings → License
  2. View:
    • License status (Active/Expired)
    • Expiration date
    • Sites activated
    • Activations remaining

Deactivate License

To move your license to another site:

  1. Go to Testimonials → Settings → License
  2. Click Deactivate License
  3. Install and activate on the new site

Renewal

You’ll receive renewal reminders 30 days and 7 days before expiration.

To renew:

  1. Visit your Purchase History page
  2. Click Renew License
  3. Complete checkout

After expiration:

  • Plugin continues to work
  • No new updates
  • No support access
  • Renew anytime to restore

Upgrade License

To upgrade from Basic (1 site) to Business (5 sites):

  1. Visit Testimonials Manager Pro
  2. Purchase Business license
  3. Deactivate old license
  4. Activate new license

10. Troubleshooting

License Won’t Activate

Problem: “Invalid license key” error

Solutions:

  • Copy the entire key (no spaces before/after)
  • Make sure you’re using the correct key for your plan
  • Verify the domain matches your purchase
  • Contact support if issue persists

Google Import Not Working

Problem: “API key invalid” or “No reviews found”

Solutions:

  • Verify API key is correct
  • Make sure Places API (New) is enabled in Google Cloud
  • Check API key restrictions (should allow Places API)
  • Verify your business has reviews on Google

Problem: Only 5 reviews imported

Solution: This is a Google API limitation. Google only returns the 5 most recent reviews. For historical reviews, use CSV import.

Slider Not Working

Problem: Slider doesn’t rotate or shows all slides at once

Solutions:

  • Clear your site cache
  • Check for JavaScript errors (browser console)
  • Disable other slider plugins (conflicts)
  • Make sure you have at least 2 testimonials
  • Try re-saving the page

Auto-Insert Not Displaying

Problem: Testimonials don’t appear automatically

Solutions:

  • Verify auto-insert is enabled in settings
  • Check category assignments match your rules
  • Confirm testimonials are published (not drafts)
  • Check if your theme supports the hook location
  • Try changing position (before/after content)

Updates Not Showing

Problem: No update notifications in WordPress

Solutions:

  • Verify license is active
  • Go to Plugins → click Check for updates
  • Deactivate and reactivate license
  • Clear WordPress transients

Plugin Conflicts

Problem: Features not working after installing another plugin

Solutions:

  • Deactivate other plugins one by one to identify conflict
  • Common conflicts: Other testimonial plugins, slider plugins
  • Contact support with plugin list
